FAQs

What Ruby Lake Resort Is Known For

Q: What is Ruby Lake Resort known for on the Sunshine Coast BC?

A: If you are visiting our beautiful Sunshine Coast resort at Ruby Lake, it is best known for its food, family atmosphere, and one-of-a-kind nature experience.

While many Sunshine Coast resorts offer a restaurant as part of the stay, here the experience is different. La Trattoria Italiana is often the reason guests come first, and then choose to stay.

A: La Trattoria Italiana is a family run restaurant led by Chef Aldo and his son Paolo, with the support of the entire family.

The cuisine follows a farm-to-table philosophy, proudly supporting Ocean Wise seafood and focusing on what is fresh and in season. Rather than offering a large menu, the kitchen prepares a small number of dishes with care and intention.

Guests can expect:

Fresh salmon, trout, and halibut
Seasonal seafood such as spotted prawns
Wild mushrooms and locally inspired ingredients
Homemade desserts, fresh salads, and baked goods

The result is a relaxed, authentic dining experience inspired by northern Italian tradition with a strong West Coast influence.

A: What truly sets this Sunshine Coast resort at Ruby Lake apart is the presence of the family throughout the property.

Guests often meet Papa Antonio, even in his 90s, welcoming arrivals and helping guide parking, while also keeping an eye on the property and its wildlife.

Mama Gabriella, in her 80s, remains actively involved in daily operations, moving between the restaurant and behind the scenes.

This creates a rare atmosphere where guests feel part of something personal, not just a place to stay.

A: The setting is a big part of the experience.

Guests can dine on two outdoor patios:

One overlooking Ruby Lake
One facing the lagoon bird sanctuary

During dinner, it is common to see swallows nesting nearby and wildlife moving through the lagoon, including beavers and birds.

At sunset, the sky often turns deep shades of red over the lake, a moment many guests remember long after their stay.

A: Beyond the restaurant, this Sunshine Coast resort at Ruby Lake is known for its 88-acre natural setting, offering a mix of comfort and outdoor experience.

Guests can enjoy:

Swimming in one of the warmest lakes in British Columbia
Canoeing, paddleboarding, and rowing on the lake
Forest trails and wildlife viewing
Glamping and rustic stays in the upper village
Peaceful, quiet surroundings designed for relaxation

It is also known as a wedding and event destination, with a natural amphitheater and forest setting:

A: Many guests initially come for dinner and then decide to stay longer.

Swimwear and a beach towel for the warm lake

Reusable water bottles
A flashlight or headlamp for evenings
Simple outdoor gear like a ball or games

Payment Methods & Fees

Q: What payment methods do you accept at Ruby Lake Resort.

A: Ruby Lake Resort accepts Visa, MasterCard, debit card, e-transfer, and cash.

Due to our remote location on the Sunshine Coast, operating costs are significantly higher than in the Lower Mainland, as most goods and supplies must be transported by truck and ferry.

We appreciate your understanding and support, which helps us maintain the quality and experience of the resort.

Payment Methods & Fees

Q: What payment methods do you accept at Ruby Lake Resort.

A: Ruby Lake Resort accepts Visa, MasterCard, debit card, e-transfer, and cash.
