How to Get to Ruby Lake Resort By Car
From Vancouver, Whistler, the Mainland or Seattle.
Getting to Ruby Lake Resort is simple and part of the experience.
Drive to Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal in West Vancouver.
From there, enjoy a beautiful 45 minute BC Ferries crossing from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale on the Sunshine Coast.
Once you arrive in Langdale, it is an easy 1 hour and 15 minute drive north on Highway 101, passing through Gibsons, Sechelt, and Madeira Park.
Ruby Lake Resort will be on your right.
We strongly recommend booking your ferry in advance.
Without a reservation, wait times can be long, especially during peak season.
Planning ahead allows you to choose your sailing time and avoid unexpected delays.
The ferry crossing itself is part of the journey.
You can step outside, enjoy the ocean views, take photos, and treat it as a short coastal experience.
This is only enjoyable when the trip is well planned.
We recommend booking ahead, arriving early, and choosing a departure time that allows you to travel comfortably.
Keep in mind that once you arrive in Langdale, you still have about 1 hour and 15 minutes to reach the resort.
If it is your first time or you are arriving later in the day, planning ahead makes a big difference.
The Sunshine Coast is a quiet and less commercialized destination, which is part of its charm.
If you need a wider selection of food or supplies, we recommend picking them up in Vancouver before your departure or stopping in Sechelt, which is the last major town on your way.
There is a smaller grocery store in Madeira Park, just minutes from the resort, but options are more limited.
We recommend arriving at the resort first, checking in, and then going out to explore.
Arriving settled makes everything easier and allows you to enjoy your stay from the start.
Drive directly to the resort and check in before heading out to explore.
Avoid stopping along the way with a full car.
Once you are here, you can relax, receive recommendations from our family, and move around freely.
Many of our guests choose to explore the Sunshine Coast on their way back.
By then, you likely will not have any perishable food left, so you are free to enjoy the experience without worrying about timing or storage.
You can take your time and enjoy something simple and memorable, like fish and chips in Sechelt or a walk along the dock in Gibsons.
If you have a ferry reservation later in the day, you already know you only need to arrive about 45 minutes before departure.
You are not rushed, you are relaxed, and you can enjoy your last moments on the Coast.
This is what we recommend to all our guests.
As you approach Ruby Lake Resort, you will be about 10 minutes past Madeira Park.
You will first see a sign for the Iris Griffith Centre, this is where our property begins.
Shortly after, you will see the entrance for the Spirit of the Rainforest Village, which is where the glamping tents and wood cabins are located.
Don’t turn there.
Continue driving as the road begins to go gently downhill.
You will then see another entrance for the Ruby Lake Resort cottages.
You are also not turning there.
Continue all the way to the restaurant.
You will see the restaurant on your right and the lake on your left.
All check ins take place at La Trattoria Italiana at Ruby Lake Resort, located directly on the water.
The check in booth is in the restaurant parking lot.
This is the only check in location on the property.
Once you arrive, you will be right on the lake and ready to begin your stay.
We kindly ask all our guests to keep us informed of their arrival time.
If anything changes during your journey, a delay, a car issue, or a late arrival, please let us know.
As a small family run resort, we do not operate a 24 hour front desk.
We personally welcome our guests and make sure everything is ready for your arrival.
When we are not informed, it can be difficult, especially with very late arrivals.
Keeping us updated allows us to take care of you properly and ensure a smooth check in.
Please drive carefully along Highway 101 and respect all road signs.
This is a natural area and wildlife crossings are common.
You may encounter deer, elk, turtles, or even beavers along the road.
Slow down, stay alert, and be mindful of your surroundings.
A safe and relaxed drive is the best way to begin your time on the Sunshine Coast.
Drive Highway 101 to Saltery Bay Ferry Terminal, approximately 30 minutes south of Powell River.
Take the scenic 50 minute ferry crossing to Earls Cove.
From there, it is a short 6 km drive south on Highway 101 to Ruby Lake Resort.
We recommend booking your ferry in advance here as well to ensure a smooth and stress free arrival.
